While Americans and other foreign people alike might think that the UK has some strange foods and traditions, it all seems normal to us here. However, it comes both ways and we might find a bunch of American traditions strange as well. A recent survey by Best Casino interviewed 3,000 Americans about the UK’s food habits and traditions, delving into topics such as gravy on chips, battered Mars bars and sausages or the UK’s capital city.
Well, the results proved to be as brilliant as we had hoped, because 40% of Americans think battered mars bars and sausages aren’t real. Tell that to a local chippy in Glasgow, eh! Even if the average American isn’t going to hop on a plane to Scotland to find out for themselves, a quick Google search could prove its existence real quick.
What is more, 43% of Americans who participated in the survey also think that Britain’s most popular dish is beans on toast. Actually, according to Statista, 85% of UK residents said their favourite dishes were fish and chips and roast chicken. Beans on toast took only sixth place, with a rating of 76%.
To be honest, I agree with this one: 68 % of Americans say that it’s weird to have a washing machine in the kitchen. A lot of the world have their washing machines in the bathroom, which makes so much more sense as people normally don’t undress in their kitchens.
Further findings from the study proved that a huge 28% of American people think that Manchester is the capital of the UK, while 80% think Lemonade shouldn’t be fizzy. At least here it’s just fizzy juice, so us Scots have set the record straight with this one.
And finally, 31% of American people can’t identify the Geordie accent when played a clip of Geordie Shore. Areet pet, I’m gannin yem. I wonder what they would say about the Scottish accent!
