Ever had food so good you ate in complete silence until you couldn’t eat a single bite more? Well, Atlantic Bar and Brasserie in Glasgow will leave you in a food coma so good you’ll dream about it for days – and, of course, will be back for more!
While the surroundings of Atlantic Bar and Brasserie are just as pleasant, the food brings guests the comfort of a warm hug, all wrapped up in a dreamy layer of mashed potatoes. Located in the original booking office of The Anchor Line on St Vincent Street, the French restaurant pays homage to the Atlantic restaurant of 1938.

What is more, Atlantic Bar and Brasserie is located within the Art Deco Building of Native Glasgow, which is now a boutique four-star aparthotel boasting original stonework and woodwork. The basement level of the restaurant also features historic features, highlighting the splendour of modern heritage.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to visit Atlantic Bar and Brasserie and try it for ourselves, and we really need to rave more about the food. But first, let’s talk about this hidden floral terrace. As soon as visitors descend down the stairs, they are met with a fairytale-like space. Decked in pink hues and flowers, the outdoor terrace is just out of view for passers-by, providing a little oasis for both al fresco dining and a wee cocktail or two.
The food

The menu at the brasserie is inspired by classic French cuisine, being one of the only places in Glasgow also offering a Low FODMAP menu to our IBS friends. Whether guests are visiting for lunch or dinner, there is a menu for every occasion.
We went for the soup of the day to start and the Croquette de Morue, a crispy cod cake with tartare vert, pickled lemon, kohlrabi, radish and watercress. Both starters were phenomenal, boasting seasonal flavours.

The main event was the star of the show, with the Daube de Beouf, a beef shin slow cooked with red wine, butternut squash and truffle purée, pancetta, confit garlic and parsley mash, roast shallot, Burgundy sauce and herb oil, as well as the Demi Poulet, a half lemon-thyme, fine herb and lemongrass marinated chicken, roasted on the spit, French pavé and salade de carottes râpées with Béarnaise sauce. There is a lot going on in both of these dishes, resulting in an explosion of flavours and full bellies due to the generous portions.
The drinks

Due to it being a Spritz kind of weather, we opted for a classic Aperol Spritz and a Basi Smash Spritz with Beefeater gin, Cruse sparkling wine & soda, lemon juice and basil syrup to accompany the sunny weather live jazz.
Visitors can also indulge in classic cocktails, the perfect gin and tonic serves, a generous wine list and, of course, champagne.
Plus, the live jazz is on on Saturdays and Sundays between 2pm and 5pm.

Overall, the restaurant is a reliable place to return to for those wanting some seriously good classic French dishes that won’t break the bank, all enjoyed in an elegant environment.
Atlantic Bar and Brasserie is located on 12-16 St Vincent Pl, G1 2EU, and you can book a table on the restaurant’s website.
