There are heaps of spots to choose from around Glasgow city centre. However, not many offer everything in one: a contagiously positive vibe, good music, food that melts in the mouth and, of course, wholesome cocktails. One of Glasgow’s newest day-to-night additions, August House, has all that and more.
August House is an all-day venue that has opened its doors in December 2022 and is located on Mitchell Street. Offering house music, all-day dining and carefully crafted cocktails, the spot is a stand-out amongst Glasgow’s newly-opened bars and restaurants.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to come and see it for ourselves, and we were not only pleasantly surprised, but also kind of obsessed with the place. For someone who loves deep house, a decent concoction and good food, August House hit the spot transforming us to somewhere warmer than our wee Glasvegas. What is more, the spot is decked in disco balls, has DJs on every night and offers an effortless contemporary décor along with friendly staff.
The menu is mainly created for sharing and is comprised of snacks, small plates and bagels during lunch. To start, we opted for the Toasted Nut, Seed and Flower Butter Board with charred sourdough bread and it was a clear favourite for everyone involved. Sometimes, less is more and the butter board offered warm comfort we never knew we needed on a Saturday night.
Other highlights on the menu include the sweet potato fries with cheese and truffle oil and Fried Chicken Sando with shredded cabbage, tonkatsu sauce, Japanese mayo and soft white bread. And for the true cheese lovers out there, the Burrata with pistachio pesto, toasted pine nuts and butterfly sorrel provided the perfect fix.
As August House is also called a ‘cocktail sanctuary’, you can tell the cocktail menu is its pride and joy. For a perfectly balanced serve, opt for Cruise, with Roku gin, black raspberry liqueur, citrus and prosecco. The Sweet Spot is also absolutely delicious, with Haku vodka, lychee liqueur, citrus, prosecco.
The verdict is clear: August House is the hang-out spot for deep house music fans, with laid-back all-day dining and carefully crafted cocktails.
