
Winter never lasts forever – Spring is a season of rebirth, with fresh blooms bringing a sense of hope. Many of us are now coming out of hibernation, looking for beautiful seasonal places to visit. So fear not, for Secret Glasgow has got you covered for those much-needed walks to witness bluebells in our country’s woods, blooming between late March and mid-May.
1. Kinclaven Bluebell Wood, Perthshire
Named as one of the best places in Europe to see Spring flowers, Kinclaven Bluebell Wood is located in Perthshire, just under an hour and a half drive from Glasgow. The stunning woodland offers breathtaking vistas, with all kinds of flowers for visitors to marvel at, including bluebells. The forest has a marked pathway circling around, and guests are advised to stick to help preserve the flowers.
2. Carstramon Wood, Gatehouse of Fleet, Dumfries & Galloway
Surrounded by ancient oaks, Carstramon Wood in Dumfries & Galloway is well-known for its stunning bluebells every Spring. It takes just over two hours to drive to the forest from Glasgow, with the area boasting plenty of marked paths. Plus, visitors can spot roe deer and red squirrels while out.
3. Carron Glen, Falkirk
Located just half an hour from Glasgow, Carron Glen is a gift that keeps on giving all year round with River Carron’s North bank. On top of being one of the best spots to see bluebells near Glasgow, visitors can also spot otters and kingfishers, as well as lots of other wildflowers.
4. Darroch Wood
Darroch Bluebell Wood is just an hour and a half from Glasgow, with an easy circular walk for bluebell lovers to enjoy. While the wee bluebells walk only takes around 15 minutes, visitors can opt for more walks to nearby lochs.
5. Inchcailloch Island, Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond is a delightful destination for a wee walk near Glasgow on its own, but Inchcailloch Island poses a true bluebells paradise during the Spring. Located an hour from Glasgow, guests can take the Cruise Loch Lomond ferries to the island a few times a day. Plus, take the time to have a picnic on Port Bawn beach and check out the 13th-century church dedicated to St Kentigerna while there!
