A rap battle? No! A street dance battle? No! We’re talking about a bull-riding battle coming to Glasgow next week, and with a big annual prize, too. Riders can battle it out every single week from January 31 to live country bands and DJs at Maggie’s Rock ‘n’ Rodeo, Scotland’s first country bar with a bull pit.
Located on Trongate, Maggie May’s got a £500,000 refurbishment and rebranding as Maggie’s Rock ‘n’ Rodeo in September 2023, bringing its very own bull pit and the “Hoedown” late-night venue. The owners took inspiration from Nashville’s finest dive bars, going all things country as it has named itself “The Home of Good Times”.
Starting from Wednesday, January 31 between 8pm and 10pm, mechanic bull-riding enthusiasts, as well as complete beginners, can try their luck in a bull riding battle, with a chance of winning a trip to Nashville for two, on top of multiple smaller prizes. Visitors can expect live country music and DJs, while ICW’s awesome Katt Wolfe will be hosting to see who can ride to the top of the leaderboard.
What is more, it’s free entry and free bull-riding for the battle, providing a unique way to spend a Wednesday night. Judges will be scoring on best time and best style, with weekly prizes up for grabs including £50 bar tabs and exclusive Maggie’s merch, as well as other surprises.
Finally, the rider with the best time at the end of the year will win a 7-night trip for two to Nashville from Barrhead Travel, including flights and accommodation.
Oli Norman, owner of Maggie’s Rock ‘n’ Rodeo said: “We’re excited to be kicking off the search for Scotland’s best bull rider on the 31st of Jan in the Bull Pit. The top prize is the trip of a lifetime to Nashville thanks to Barrhead Travel. All you need to do is come along, mount the bull, strap on and go for glory – it’s going to be wild.”
On top of the bull riding battle, Maggie’s also hosts a Cowboy Ceilidh and the UK’s-first Cowboy Strip Show!
