Whether it’s a lunch time staple or a post-night out craving, there are not many things that cure the hunger pains quite like a kebab. Our local kebab takeaways and restaurants are the beating hearts of our high streets, and some are absolute life-savers being open so late into the night therefore it’s only right these kebab houses deserve their very own awards.
And luckily for Glaswegians, they happen to have one of the best kebab houses in the country. A favourite of many in Glasgow, Shawarma King was awarded the accolade of best kebab house in Scotland at the British Kebab Awards ceremony held in London on the evening of March 1.
The British Kebab Awards, held in association with JUST EAT, are billed as “a chance to recognise and champion the efforts of local kebab takeaways and restaurants across the nation”. The King Street spot best known for their showstopping shawarmas and flavoursome wraps managed to fight off competition from nine other Scottish kebab houses in order to claim the winning prize.
Shawarma King managed to nab the top spot from two other kebab house contenders in Glasgow, Grillzz Glasgow Takeaway in Dalmarnock and Istanbul Turkish Kebab House in Cessnock. The kebab house also pipped four kebab shops in Edinburgh as well as Dante’s Fish Chips and Kebab in Dumfries, which won the title of best kebab house in Scotland back in 2021.
On Shawarma King’s menu you’ll find starters such as falafel with hummus, chicken wings, baba ganoush, tabbouleh salad or delicious dips like hummus and tzatziki served with freshly baked naan bread. For main course, the kebab house serves up skewers of minced lamb or marinated chicken cooked over charcoals; lamb or chicken shawarma wraps; falafel wraps; as well as Turkish, Arabic and Kurdish charcoal grilled kebabs.
