Okay, it’s June: I was not expecting to be writing news about snow in Scotland right now, but the reality proved us all wrong. That’s right, snowfall and hail were spotted in the Scottish Highlands this week, proving us that Scotland, indeed, can literally have all four seasons in a single day, no matter the time of year.
While weather forecast company WXCharts predicted huge amounts of snow in Scotland, including Glasgow, and beyond on June 4, Cairngorms was actually the region to get snow. Inverness and Lochaber also saw hail on the same day, and you just don’t know what to expect here in Scotland.
The Met Office has predicted further rainfall in the region, with scattered showers and sun on Wednesday, June 5, with more rain forecast for Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7.
However, May was the warmest month on record for the UK, boasting average temperatures of 13.1 degrees. The temperature average beat the previous record in 2008 by 1 degree. As a result, we had the warmest May since 1884! WHAT!
So, while the are no predictions for any more snow at the moment, the turbulent weather conditions could always prove us wrong once again.
For Glasgow’s weather forecast, The Met Office states for tonight (June 5): “Isolated evening showers soon clear to leave the night dry with long clear periods. The night will be cold with cloud spreading east towards dawn. Minimum temperature 5 °C.”
For Thursday, it says: “Bright spells with isolated showers during the morning. The showers clear as sunny spells increase during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 13 °C.”
And, finally, the weekend forecast is looking not so shabby at all, saying: “A band of rain will pass southeast Friday morning with scattered showers following. Showers clear early Saturday, leaving most of Saturday and Sunday dry with increasing sunny periods.”
So, here in Glasgow we have nothing to worry about when it comes to snow, but let’s hope our pals in the Highlands will stay snow-free, too!
