Back in December, The Six Company announced three brand new openings for 2024: a flagship Six By Nico restaurant in Merchant City, Sole Club and Somewhere By Nico. Well, now that the flagship restaurant has opened in the city centre, it is time for Sole Club, a speakeasy fish restaurant hidden behind a chippie.
The very first Six by Nico opened its doors in Finnieston in 2017 introducing its famous ‘chippie’ menu, owned by Nico Simeone. Ever since the company has been received extremely positively around the UK: now, with 17 venues in ten cities across the UK, like Edinburgh, Manchester, and London, as well as Dublin. Going back to his roots, Chef has opened Glasgow’s newest addition with a soulful fish menu, perfect for that much-needed foodie hit.
Opened on February 28 in Finnieston, Sole Club is a hidden fish restaurant behind a fridge door of a takeaway. The spot seats only 20 people, boasting an intimate, trendy atmosphere.
The menu is a blissful selection of unique seafood dishes, creatively presented with a plethora of unexpected flavours. Guests can enjoy a four-course dinner for just £35, with options ranging from oysters to an entire fish (without the head, of course). While the menu changes, visitors should expect the usual favourites like mussels, scallops, oysters and a variety of fish like cod, salmon and monkfish.
And for those who are after a comforting takeaway, the chippie serves the usual favourites like fish and chips, a Fish Finger Butty or the Lobster and Crayfish Roll. All that and more is available for collection and delivery through Deliveroo.
Chef Nico Simeone said: “Finnieston is special to us, it’s where it all began for Six by Nico. When we decided to move to a bigger venue in the Merchant City, it was never a question of giving up the venue; it’s too big a part of our story. But for me, it’s always about ‘what’s next’? How can we take the ethos, thought process, and creativity behind Six by Nico and channel it into a completely new and original concept?”
“With everything we do, the first goal is how do we get the product and the experience to where we want to be. And then after that, it’s how we grow it so more people across the country can experience it. I believe in the Sole Club concept and think it can go on to follow in Six by Nico’s footsteps – but first it’s about making Finnieston a success.”
