Okay, we have been warned about the Red Weather Warning For Wind, we are staying home and staying safe as much as we can. However, when can we go back to normal? Can we go out tonight without having to worry about returning home or “danger to life”? So, let’s have a look at what we know so far about when to expect public transport in Glasgow to return to normal as Storm Éowyn is here until tomorrow.
Yesterday, most public transport operators in Glasgow have announced the suspension of services. ScotRail, First Bus and Glasgow Subway are no exception, having made the decision to cancel all trips from around 8am this morning (January 24).
ScotRail services
It looks like there will be no trains all day on Friday, January 24 and they will start back up on Saturday morning, January 25.
ScotRail announced on their website: ” All ScotRail services are suspended on Friday, 24 January 2025. We strongly advise you not to travel, as there will be no train services, and no alternative transport will be available.
The Met Office issued an upgraded red warning for Storm Éowyn, which is expected to arrive in Scotland in the morning on Friday, 24 January, bringing extremely high winds, with gusts reaching 100mph in some parts.
The red warning will be in place from 10.00 to 17.00 and covers central Scotland, Tayside, Fife, southwest Scotland, Lothian, Borders, and Strathclyde. There is also an amber warning for wind across the rest of the country and a yellow warning for snow covering much of the highlands.
This could lead to trees and other debris falling onto the tracks, trapping trains and putting people in danger. It can also impact service recovery times due to poor road and driving conditions.
Once the warnings pass, the network will have to undergo safety inspections before services can be reintroduced. Please check the ScotRail website or app before travelling on Saturday morning.”
“Tickets for travel dated 24 January 2025 can now be used from Thursday, 23 January, up to and including Tuesday, 28 January 2025. This means that these can be used before or after the date printed on the ticket.”
Glasgow Subway
Glasgow Subway aims to restart at around 6pm tonight (January 24).
SPT announced: “For the safety of both our passengers and staff who need to travel to and from work, the Subway will not open tomorrow morning and services will not operate until the red weather warning is lifted. We expect Subway services to resume at approximately 6pm.”
SPT bus stations
SPT said: “SPT bus stations, including Buchanan Bus Station will be open to receive the limited number of bus services which plan to run. Local SPT subsidised services are suspended from 9am until 6pm and all My Bus services are suspended.”
There have been no further updates from SPT as of yet.
