Danger to life, fallen trees, flying debris and widespread travel disruption across all modes have been the direct result of Storm Isha and Storm Jocelyn (January 21-24). An Amber Weather Warning for wind was issued on January 21 urging people to stay home, following a Yellow Weather Warning for wind present until Wednesday (January 24).
The Met Office said: “Strong winds associated with Storm Isha are likely to bring some disruption to travel and utilities across the UK on Sunday and Monday. […] Strong winds are expected from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning with disruption to travel and utilities possible.”
What is more, all ScotRail’s services have been cancelled from 7pm on Sunday night (January 21), and some have now resumed. There are currently no replacements for rail travel, making Tuesday morning difficult for commuters. Plus, trees have been reported to have fallen on the tracks, so the network has to be safely examined before the trains can run again.
What is more, all ScotRail services will be cancelled from 7pm tonight (January 23) in order to allow for further service checks. What is more, some routes are still closed. To check the reopened lines, go to ScotRail’s post comments on X here.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “The heavy wind and ongoing rain hitting most parts of the country mean that it will not be safe for our customers and our staff, and all ScotRail train services will be suspended from 19.00 tonight.
“We know the impact that the withdrawal of train services will have on customers, but our first priority is always to ensure the safety of staff and passengers – and this is a necessary step to ensure everyone’s safety during the severe weather.”
“Our colleagues at Network Rail Scotland will be working flat out through the night and into the morning to carry out safety checks, and assess what repairs are required to reopen the railway. However, customers will be unable to travel early Monday morning, as trains will not be able to operate until the infrastructure has been made safe.
“We will update our website, mobile app, and social media feeds when we have more information, and customers should check for the latest updates before they attempt to travel tomorrow.”
As always, for those who absolutely have to travel during Storm Jocelyn, always check for disruptions before setting off. You can check for ScotRail updates on their website.
