Dough-nut get us wrong, we love a cookie and a brownie any day of the week, however doughnuts are something special. But what makes them extra tasty is when they come fresh out of the oven right here in Glasgow and are handcrafted to perfection. And the ones at Tantrum Doughnuts are exactly that.
After a string of successful summer markets and pop ups in 2015, the Glasgow doughnut-makers managed to scrape together some money to buy themselves a shaky mixer and a 20 litre table top fryer to open their first shop in Yorkhill. The idea behind Tantrum Doughnuts was to offer an alternative to the mass produced, additive filled doughnuts found on the market during that time, and give the people of Glasgow some deliciously-topped and flavoured doughnuts.
Everything in the Tantrum Doughnuts bakery is handmade, from their signature brioche dough to their glazes, jams, custards and toppings. And if that’s not enough the bakers have three types of doughnut doughs for you to choose from – their signature fluffy brioche, their cakey ‘old fashioneds’, and their delightful Vegan rings.
One flavour that flies off the shelves of Tantrum is their crème brûlée doughnut. It’s a beautiful brioche doughnut filled with Madagascar vanilla bean custard that is then torched to create that signature crunchy sugar top that so many of us love to crack on a crème brûlée.
But the phenomenal flavours do not stop there. Tantrum Doughnuts updates their menu regularly with seasonal specials such as summery peach and ginger cobbler (peach ginger jam glazed brioche ring topped with crumble) and festive gingerbread old fashioned (gingerbread glaze with their “old fashioned” doughnut topped with a gingerbread crumb).
More doughnuts to get your chops round include chocolate millionaire; pistachio and hibiscus; lemon and poppyseed; Madagascar vanilla bean glaze; peanut butter and jam; plus double blueberry and white chocolate, to name a few. And they not only serve circular ring doughnuts as Tantrum Doughnuts offer some square-shaped ring specials such as their banana cake old fashioned doughnut- caramelised banana and hazelnut praline glaze on an old fashioned style “cakey” doughnut, topped with banana chips.
The Glasgow bakery, which also has a city centre shop, serves amazing vegan doughnuts with flavours such as their blueberry jam glazed doughnut and peanut butter glazed doughnut ring topped with roasted, crushed peanuts and crunchy sugar pearls. Plus, if you can’t find what you’re looking for Tantrum Doughnuts offer a custom piping and flavour service to help create your own personalised and unique doughnuts for events and special occasions.
You can either pop to one of their bakeries (bright and early if you can as these doughnuts sell out pretty fast) or pre-order via email to get your hands on some of these baked delights. Tantrum Doughnuts also offer delivery via UberEats and Deliveroo too.
