We’re all pretty familiar with the classic ice lolly down the freezer aisle that is Solero- vanilla ice cream with a tangy tropical fruit swirl and encased in an exotic fruit sorbet coating- but fancy trying it in boozy form? Well, our prayers have been answered as the refreshing exotic Solero has been transformed into an unreal cocktail that might just be the drink of the summer.
Glasgow bar, The Social, has conjured up this boozy version of the iconic ice lolly by blending vodka, Passoa, passionfruit, lime and vanilla, which can either be served frozen or straight up. Located at Royal Exchange Square, The Social has a number of refreshing cocktails to be enjoyed including this exotic drink dedicated to one of our favourite fruity ice lollies.
But that’s not all when it comes to these tropical cocktails, as you can enjoy them as part of The Social’s infamous cocktail trees. Whether you’re all about the Solero or want a bit of everything you can order nine beautifully-crafted cocktails to arrive on one of these eye-catching trees. Sit back and sip on these summer drinks whilst sat looking out at the square on the bar’s terrace, or even in their modern and sleek indoor restaurant featuring booths, neon lights and leather stools.
The cocktails available to order as part of a cocktail tree, of course include the Solero cocktail, plus Aperol spritz, pornstar martini and espresso martini, as well as selecting from one of their gin and tonic sharing cocktails. Plus, there is their sweet-inspired martinis including candyfloss (a mix of vodka, raspberry, cranberry, bubblegum and decorated with a generous fluff of candyfloss) and marshmallow (a mix of vodka, Frangelico, cream, milk and a flamed marshmallow on top).
And it’s not just the cocktail trees that are worth visiting The Social for. Their drinks menu boasts five different ‘Flavours of Summer’ cocktails to choose from, such as watermelon, raspberry, elderflower, apple and peach, as well as a Haribo Royale cocktail giving an ode to the childhood sweets.
Another cocktail worth quacking about is their Rubber Duck cocktail featuring Hendrick’s Midsummer Solstice gin, lychee, blue curacao, apple and with the cutest rubber duck floating on the drink’s surface. You’ll find something for everyone on The Social’s drinks menu whether you’re after a glass of wine, pint of beer, low or zero alcohol options, shots, hard seltzer or a spirit and mixer.
To soak up all that booze and fill that hole whatever time of day it may be, The Social also has a pretty delicious food selection that includes brunch dishes, small plates, woodfired pizzas, burgers, salad bowls, sandwiches and loaded fries. Choose from the likes of French toast topped with blueberry, whipped caramel cream and maple granola crunch and Eggs Benedict with haggis or beetroot falafel shawarma and hanging skewered harissa chicken, to name a few.
