As the Glasgow Christmas Lights Switch On took place on Sunday, November 19 this year, it has only been two days of our city looking super festive. However, this did not go unnoticed by DFDS, a ferry and cruise operator, who conducted a wee survey to determine the best Christmas lights displays around Europe.
Unsurprisingly, the Glasgow Christmas Lights display was named one of the best in Europe after the study, ranking sixth on the list of ten European cities. The research looked at TikTok video views, determining the most majestic Christmas lights around the continent, and we’re (obviously) obsessed with a good festive display, especially when there are Christmas trees!
Glasgow raked in a whopping 39,000 TikTok views with its deserving sixth spot on the list. Described as “known for its impressive Christmas lights, featuring a large tree and colourful glowing displays that attract large crowds”, Scotland’s largest city successfully delivered festive joy for another year.
Unsurprisingly, London was crowned the best city for Christmas lights displays, with Regent Street and Covent Garden ranked as the top two Christmassy attractions. What is more, Christmas at the Botanics at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh also scored an impressive 195,600 views!
So, we’ll take the praise where it’s deserved – it’s official – Glasgow boasts one of the best Christmas lights in Europe! With the Winterfest Christmas market open at St Enoch Square already and George Square opening on November 25, there are plenty of things to do in Glasgow this festive season.
