Scotland is home to some of the most pristine and picturesque beaches in the world – transporting visitors to tropical locations, sometimes with a Highland cow (or three) enjoying a wee day out on the sand, reminding us we’re still in Scotland. While there are usually no cows at Kilbride Bay, it sure feels like you’re not in Scotland anymore.
Kilbride Bay, also known as Ostel Bay, is considered one of the best beaches in Scotland, and is not as well-known. Located on the southern coast of Tighnabruaich on the Kyles of Bute, the spot offers a serene getaway from the busy city, around two two hours and fifteen minutes’ drive to Kilbride Farm from Glasgow.
How to reach Kilbride Bay
To reach the hidden beach, it is best to park at Kilbride Farm, even though it offers limited parking. As always, keep in mind not to block the road or farm equipment, as parking does get busy on sunny days. If the parking is too crowded, visitors can park at Millhouse and either easily cycle or hike to Kilbride Bay for 45 minutes.
Kilbride Farm also boasts a lovely cafe which offers homemade dishes like pies and burgers, as well as baked goods, ice cream and hot and cold drinks.

Once parked, fed and watered, guests will need to reach the gate and follow the “To The Beach” sign. From there, it takes around a 15-minute walk it a fast cycle through a woodland.
Kilbride Bay is a massive beach, so it never feels crowded, allowing for a quiet day trip from Glasgow.
The Ark of Argyll
On the way back, why not visit the Ark of Argyll, majestically sitting on a hillside with beautiful vistas. Located around half a mile from the village of Tighnabruaich, the boat stretches over 20 metres long and six metres high near a convenient parking spot.
