Would you go on an Uber Seaplane? In the Scottish Highlands? Well, that has now become a reality, and with the soothing voice of Alan Cumming in the background, nonetheless. The company has branched out its modes of transport, and chose Scotland instead of warmer climates like the Maldives, or, well, Italy.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to try the seaplane out, gliding away from Loch Lomond just outside from Cameron House, the five-star resort on the shores of the loch.
Probably one of the smoothest take-offs and landings you will ever experience, the 30-minute journey took off and landed on Loch Lomond after a brief safety demonstration. Once airborne, the seaplane headed over the hill Westbound, with captivating sights over Helensburgh, Greenock, Loch Long and more. By the way, I don’t think I have ever been so close to a hill on a plane before, which is probably not the best day out for those with a fear of heights.
As promised, ‘The Traitors US’ host and proud Scot, Alan Cumming narrated the experience, sharing personal stories and anecdotes, as well as his knowledge and love for the Highlands.
The views from above from such a low altitude are awe-inspiring, making us appreciate our Bonnie Scotland even more. As a result, a seaplane is officially the best way to see the Highlands in the quickest amount of time possible.
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK said: “The Scottish Highlands are one of the most beautiful sights in the world. We’re thrilled to work with the iconic Alan Cumming to provide Uber customers with an extra special guided Seaplane tour of this special place.”
While the free experience was only available to book on the Uber app between September 21 and 23, guests can still book a seaplane ride on Loch Lomond Seaplanes starting from £149.
What is more, Loch Lomond Seaplanes is Europe’s first scheduled seaplane service, and has been in business since the 1950s.
There are also seaplane tours available at the Cameron House jetty, and guests can inquire more on their website.
To this date, Uber has done a myriad of transport modes, including trains, flights, Uber Boat by Thames Clipper and Lime bikes in the UK, with seaplanes being its latest addition. Plus, travellers can now book the Caledonian Sleeper on Uber to help encourage environmentally-friendly travel!
