Magical twinkling Christmas lights are filling Glasgow this festive season, lighting up the darkest days of the year. From the Royal Exchange Square’s iconic lights to stunning light trails, the city is in full swing this season, including hosting Europe’s largest star tunnel.
Located on Argyle Street, the massive star tunnel boasts colourful sparkly lights. At 20 feet (almost seven meters) tall, the attraction is 80 feet (24.4 meters) long and 20 feet wide. As a result, Argyle Street was renamed Stargyle Street for the season, and we’re here for it.
What is more, as visitors walk into the immersive tunnel, they can press an interactive button which activates a fun light sequence showcasing Santa’s sleigh taking off.
This year, the Glasgow City Chambers on George Square has also lit up for the season with a light projection show run by 21CC Group. Running between 3:30pm and 10pm, the art installation boasts Christmassy themes such as the North Pole and candy canes, championing the best of our city’s architecture.
Plus, Winterfest at George Square is going strong with its yearly Christmas market with a covered ice rink, staying here until the New Year, January 5. However, if you still wish to visit Winterfest at St Enoch Square, you have time to do so until December 29.
Jacqueline McLaren, Glasgow’s Lord Provost, said: “Christmas in Glasgow is always a magical experience especially when shared with family and friends.
The festive season is now in full swing. I’d encourage everyone to visit the markets, the tree and see all the sparkling lights in George Square then take a walk through our new star tunnel on Argyle Street adding even more sparkle to Christmas.”
