We love Glasgow, but getting away to the countryside also has its perks. A change of scenery, some much-needed pampering and quality time with loved ones are just a few things to expect at the Glasgow Westerwood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort near Glasgow.
Located near Cumbernauld Village, Glasgow Westerwood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort boasts four stars, two restaurants, a spa, an indoor pool and saunas, as well as a gym and an 18-hole golf course. The hotel is also dog-friendly, so guests can bring along furry friends for an overnight stay.
Secret Glasgow got the chance to try it out for ourselves, uncovering a new gem just outside the city.
The spa
The spa and poolside area are the most noteworthy aspects of the hotel, with a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, 8 treatment rooms and a relaxation room. However, the jacuzzi is quite small, so it could be busy on the day. Visitors can take advantage of multiple spa offers, whether it’s just for a day trip or an overnight stay.
Those after a wee staycation can opt for the 1-Night Spa Break with either a 25-minute treatment or a 50-minute treatment, also including dinner and breakfast the morning after. Guests can choose from a variety of treatments, such as shoulder, neck and scalp massages, facials and various ELEMIS treatments. Of course, visitors can just book a separate spa treatment without having to book any packages.
You can find the full list of packages and treatments on the Glasgow Westerwood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort website.
The food
The hotel boasts two restaurants – the Flemings Restaurant, where breakfast and dinner are served, and The Grill Restaurant, where lunch and afternoon tea are served, located by the spa.
The menu offers a non-pretentious selection of dishes we all know and love, from grilled steaks to burgers. We started off with Orange and Fennel Cured Trout, served with a star anise pickled fennel salad, horseradish cream, lemon dressing and rye bread.
And for the main event, an 8Oz Fillet Steak was the obvious choice, accompanied by truffle-dressed leaves and hard cheese and fries, and doused in garlic and herb butter. The tender meat is worth the trip alone, making it the perfect end to our evening.
However, that is not all, the dessert menu is just as wholesome, with Chocolate Fondant stealing the spotlight away from the steak in the end. Plus, it’s gluten-free AND vegan! Other dessert options include Vanilla Panna Cotta, Biscoff and Miso Caramel Cheesecake and Raspberry Delice.
The drinks side is also decent, offering a generous wine list and the majority of classic cocktails for guests to indulge in. We went for a bottle of Gavi, which proved to be the ideal addition to our meal for the night.
The rooms
Staying in a Superior Twin room was a pleasant experience with the comfort of having a bed each, as well as modern decor with everything one can need for an overnight stay. Plus, the fluffy robes provided are just what you need for a cosy night in!
Guests can also opt for Classic Rooms, Deluxe Rooms, Family Rooms and Suites based on their needs, all dog-friendly, by the way.
Overall, Glasgow Westerwood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort provides an opportunity for guests to unwind in a rural setting in Central Scotland, having everything taken care of whatever one might need during their time away.
